DescriptionHandle for a coconut-shell dipper: slightly curved, slightly ovate wooden shaft tapering to round (cylindrical); whale ivory tip with a loop to accommodate a hook or lanyard, fastened with a non-ferrous metal pin; the plain whale ivory mounting flange and cylindrical shank is fastened to the shaft with a non-ferrous metal pin, and with three non-ferrous metal pins to a fragment of the original coconut-shell bowl.Provenancedonors are grandchildren of Captain Albert Alexander Thomas, the maker of the scrimshaw.On View
