DescriptionCoconut shell bowl (broken; bottom completely detached, now restored); heart-shaped mounting flange with squared, layered foreshaft; slightly S-curved wooden handle, squared with chamfered edges and tapered ends; pommel is whale ivory full-round carved in the form of a dog's head, with an oblong whale ivory ring, to accommodate a hook or lanyard; five non-ferrous metal fastenings. There are three dog's head dippers strongly resembling one another in certain details, possibly by the same hand: 1948.30.280; 2001.100.127 (S-111); and 2001.100.956 (S-827).On View
