DescriptionHorseshoe-shaped matchbox constructed of three pieces of whale ivory + a togling lid with cross-hatched striking surface; the edges stained dark; the top surface overlaid with a horseshoe of whale ivory with monochrome stipple-engraved highlights (significant loss of pigment), 10 non-ferrous studs, and with a raised letter "V"; 6 non-ferrous fasteners on the bottom.
