DescriptionA knife-grip inlaid wooden handle with whale ivory pommel; stilletto steel double-edged bayonet-type blade; S-shaped non-ferrous guard (hilt); baleen sheath with baleen drifts and non-ferrous fasteners, whale ivory tip and collar ferrule. Handle inlaid with mother-of-pearl (heart, six-pointed flower, geometric design, flower, two leaves) and non-ferrous (sword). Pommel silhouette carved and monochrome engraved in the form of a skull and crossbones on each side, the base with the initials "A.C.L." and a standing bird on verso.ProvenanceAcquired before 1931. ; Kendall Whaling Museum; NBWM
