DescriptionJust as photogenic as the Edgartown Yacht Club regatta is the occasional visit to Edgartown of the New York Yacht Club during its annual cruise. In 1950 the lordly 118-foot steel Burgess yawl Manxman, formerly a summer fixture in the harbor and with a Vineyard-born professional skipper, made her last call to the island. She is shown here before the start of the Astor Cup race, dwarfing the 70-foot Sparkman & Stephens 12-meter sloop Nereus (formerly and currently Northern Light).
