DescriptionBuilt in Rockport, Massachusetts, in 1918 to designs by Thomas F. McManus, the 44-foot gaff schooner SURPRISE sailed the East Coast under the CCA burgee for close to 40 years. Here she and an operatic fair-weather cloud ease their way across Nantucket Sound. The image was taken in the summer of 1954, but the scene exists outside of time.
