DescriptionStraight chamfered octagonal whale ivory shaft, terminating at one end in an eagle head carved in full round, with the eyes formed by yellow-metal nail-heads (the right eye broken); towards the other end (in the place where talons would be), a curved saddle with a large fluted whale ivory jagging wheel cut on teh bias from the tooth; and metal axle; the tail end terminating in a two-prong (two-tine) whale ivory fork, seperated by a band of brown baleen.The fork and part of the tail end of shaft were completely broken off and have been rejoined (old repair).
