DescriptionA pewter and enamel cylindrical cigarette humidor with a lid with a red enamel device. A polar-projection map and whaling motifs engraved in shallow relief on the lid surmounted by a blue whale in the full round that forms the handle.ProvenanceFarris is a mineral spring in Larvik, an important whaling port on Oslofjord (Christianfjord) near Sandefjord. These humidors were "made in Sandefjord, mostly for the whaling companies" (Klaus Barthelmess, Cologne, Germany, e-mail 6/16/00). Same maker as CW-0435, a silver-plate dish with embossed catcher boat scene and Hektor Whaling Company flag in polychrome enamel.
