DescriptionA silver-colored metal dish that was cast in "German silver" (nickel-zinc alloy) with a chaser-boat whaling scene and the house flag of Hvalfangerselskapet "Pelagos" (Pelagos Whaling Company) of Tinsberg.ProvenanceEither a decorative dish or ashtray. Kendall files note that whaling scene is reminiscent of painting by Charles Robert Patterson (1878-1958) ca. 1908; subsequently popularized as a postcard; plate may have been commissioned on the occasion of a jubilee book by Svend Foyn Bruun issued 1953.
