DescriptionSamurai Sword. To express appreciation for Captain Whitfield's kindness and the hospitality shown by the town's people, John Manjiro donated a smaurai sword in 1918. The original was stolen in 1977 and then later after hearing the story, Professor Tadashi Kikuoka of Seton Hall University in New Jersey, decided to replace the sword as a new symbol of the renewed friendship between the two peoples.
