DescriptionA bowl made of opaque white glass cased by blown blue glass. The bowl is round at the bottom and roughly rectangular at the top, with six large indentations form a ruffled rim. The bowl has an acidized finish with a crackle-type raised decoration. The shade of the casing varies from nearly colorless at the bottom of the bowl to baby blue at the rim. The spot where the pontil mark would be has an applied raspberry-shaped decoration. The bowl rests on translucent applied glass legs shaped to look like thorny vines. There are two sets of legs, each W-shaped. Satin glass was first introduced in the U.S. in 1885 and was produced by virtually all major glass manufacturers. Some of the most recognizable wares are those featuring an Air Trap design, with diamond quilting among the most popular patterns. Air trap designs are created when a mold-blown patterned piece of glass is coated with a layer of clear glass, trapping air, and highlighting the pattern created by the mold.On View
