DescriptionThe hood on this tall case clock has three brass ball-and-spire finials centering pierced fretwork above an arched glazed door opening to a white-painted dial with Roman and Arabic chapter rings enclosing a sweep seconds ring and calendar day aperture inscribed "Josiah Wood." The four corners of the face are each embellished with gilt scrolls encircling a red painted flower with a cross of green leaves. The case has fluted quarter colonettes over a waisted case with rectangular cupboard door inlaid with quarter fans and line inlay flanked by fluted quarter columns with brass capitals and bases, above a similarly inlaid box base over case molding on ogee bracket feet. It is constructed primarily in mahogany and white pine but is decorated in mahogany veneers and light maple inlays.
