DescriptionSpool holder and pincushions. Two discs of wood, the upper inlaid with a doughnut (circle) of tortoise shell and with a scalloped skirt of tortoise shell, all with non-ferrous metal fastenings; the lower tier with a perfled edge; a central core and three columnar supports turned from whale ivory, the columns polychrome engraved with leafy vine motifs and surmounted with small cup finials with rope-pattern rims; the core with red sealing wax highlights, polychrome engraved with flowers, surmounted with a cup finial with rope-pattern rim and a red-velvet pincushion, and surrounded on teh upper tier by a doughnut-shaped red-velvet pincushion; the columns interspersed with nine removable ferrous rod spool holders with bulb-shaped wax finials (1 rod missing); three spherical whale ivory feet.On View
