DescriptionWooden lid overlaid with baleen veneer; wooden bottom; baleen skirt and sides. Lid incised with a picture of a large house flanked by small trees. Skirt incised with a border of semicircles, with a trifid lap joint, metal fastenings. Sides incised with a ship and two brigs, flanked and interspersed with three geometric star figures each comprised of nine compass-drawn circles connected with straight lines in a star formation; two five-lobed tabs on lap joint (losses).ProvenanceCapt.
