DescriptionA time lamp with a saucer-shaped base with a knopped stem like a candlestick. The small font scrolled handle has a thumb rest. The top of the handle is attached to the font and the bottom to a large turning in the middle of the stem. The font shows a half-tube or gutter for wick support. The oil filled large glass tube has Roman numerals to indicate the time as the oil was consumed. The lamp is probably Germanic and would have been in use in the 17th Century. It is possible some were made here but that is questionable. On View
