DescriptionCoin silver oval presentation salver on four feet given to John Avery Parker as part of a set with two silver pitchers (1995.66.1-2). It features beaded decoration all around edge, and the center is engraved with a ship scene that copies the composition of artist Benjamin Russell's popular print, "A Ship on the North-West Coast Cutting in Her Last Right Whale." This rendering is surrounded by an oval pattern of scrolled foliate decoration, and flanked by a bracket shelf on each side capped by urn overflowing with leaves. An inscription at top reads: "Presented to the Hon. John Avery Parker." A similar inscription at the bottom reads: "By the Proprietors of the Merchants Bank, New Bedford, 1851."
