DescriptionA polychrome-painted plate with nautical-mythological subject consisting of three figures in the water. The naked woman draped with cloth is reclining on a monster-whale. There is a cherub above her, holding the end of the draped cloth. A man (also naked) is in water to the left, with back turned, and a large shell in his hands. The dish has an ornate border.ProvenancePainting has been retouched in another medium, likely as a Victorian concession to modesty. Henry Hornblower III, Dedham, MA, 02/26/1996On View
