DescriptionMiniature chest of drawers (bureau, scrimshaw). Miniature Empire-style chest of drawers; mahogany, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, walrus ivory, and whale skeletal bone. Drawers (six) have walrus ivory knobs trimmed with whale skeletal bone, and heart-shaped mother-of-pearl keyhole escutcheons. Drawers trimmed with whale skeletal bone. One key. Topmost two drawers are much smaller and can only be opened by pressing the opposite ends of a release bar set on top of the casing. Sides of drawers decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay panels.
