DescriptionW. Hall & Co. clear cell latch, used at Ash. St. Jail. Plexi has been added over what would originally have been an area covered by metal to show the inner workings of the latchWilliam Hall leaves E. Robinson & Co. and founds Wm. Hall & Co., 27 Dock Square, Boston, Massachusetts in 1843, selling and patenting locks through the mid 19th century. In 1875 William Hall dies in Cohasset, Mass., leaving Wm. Hall & Co to his sons William F., Henry, and Fred. In 1883 Wm. Hall & Co. opens a factory at 82 Sudbury Street. and begins selling glass door knobs. In 1919 under George McCulloch Ross, “William Hall Company” changed name to “Ross Machine Company” and closed shortly after, in 1922, being sold at auction.
