DescriptionSmall brown and gold/brass "piggy bank" designed to look like a book. "The Book of Thrift" is written on the 'spine' as if it were a title. The front 'cover' has a depiction of a bank building and is embossed with the title "New Bedford Five Cents Savings Bank Incorporated 1855 791 Purchase At." The top, bottom, and right sides of the 'book' are brass where pages would be. The bottom of the bank is engraved with "Bankers Utilities Co San Francisco Patented July 3 1923 Made in USA." There is also what appears to be serial number "J1173." There is no key, only a coin slot on the top side. On View
