DescriptionSummit of Mt. Washington, NH showing a group of 9 people (5 dressed in standard male clothing, and 4 in female clothing). Stamped verso "Bierstadt Brothers / Photographers / China Hall, 39 Purchase Steet / New Bedford, Mass. / Views among the White Mountains; The Far West; / Among the Camps on the Potomac, &c. &c." and handwrittern reads "Summit of Mt. Washington about 1863. Summit with Flagpole was near center, to the left original Tip-Top House built in 1853 with flat roof, to the right the original Summit House, built in 1852. Both houses were changed about 1865, so as to have an attic with sleeping rooms." and on the opposite side is handwritten (in a different hand) "D H HayOn View
