Ned Goode was among photographers and engineers commissioned by the Historic American Building Survey (HABS) to document "America's built environment in multiformat surveys comprising more than 556,900 measured drawings, large-format photographs, and written histories for more than 38,600 historic structures and sites dating from Pre-Columbian times to the twentieth century. The project began in 1933 in agreement with the National Park Service and the Library of Congress and was re-activated in 1957 with an emphasis on the photography portion. Ned and Lila Goode were given a contract on a competitve basis, beginning their work in their hometown, Chester County, Pennsylvania, eventually spanning New England.
