Purrington’s birth certificate in our manuscript collection: Mss 64, Series P, Subseries 46, Folder 1. He was born in Fall River, Feb. 20, 1912, son of Ralph F. Purrington and Ethel A. Mackenzie Purrington. His father’s birthplace was New Bedford, and his mother’s was Hamilton, Ontario. The New England Historic Genealogical Society database lists Ralph Forbes Purrington as the son of Frank H. Purrington, printer, and Annie C. Forbes Purrington. So Frank Purrington was Philip F. Purrington’s grandfather.
