DescriptionTripp wrote: "The whaleboat has fastened to a whale. The sail and mast were taken down as soon as the whale was struck. With the 21 foot steering-oar the boatsteerer is sweeping the boat around, so the mate may throw the sharp lance into the whale. The mate is seen with lance poised in the air awaiting the appearance of the whale which has "sounded" to the depths below. Note the whaleline attached to the whale in the wave caused by the sinking of the whale."On View
