DescriptionTripp wrote: "The try-works at full blast, trying out the oil from the "books" of blubber. The whalemen call this process "boiling." The "books" or "bibles" have been pitched into the big pots, fires started under them and the boiling goes on until the "bibles" are crisp, shriveled, and of a golden color. THey then rise to the surface and float. When the oil is properly "cooked," or boiled, the scraps are removed."
