Rogers was from Fairhaven MA and became wealthy running 6 Standard Oil Co. businesses; he became a major benefactor of Fairhaven infrastructure and built many public buildings, and was supervisor of roads; gave neighboring Mattapoisett Center School, in exchange for drinking water wells for Fairhaven in perpetuity.
