DescriptionThe JOHN R. MANTA is the only schooner in the fleet that was built for whaling. The others, Claudia, William A. Graber, and Athlete being converted. Gloucester fishermen and Margaret was a coaster. The mate of the Manta, Juan Lopes was mate who lanced the whale in "Down To The Sea in Ships".
