DescriptionBark HELEN MAR foreground center at Hazard's Wharf. Union Fish Market at left (William Bassett, proprietor), with railroad tracks crossing in front. This picture was probably taken either late in the summer of 1870 after the vessel had returned or during the summer of 1871 before she set sail. Her complete lack of outfit, whaleboats, cock-billed yards and no top-gallant masts, spars or rigging suggests that the vessel is moored awaiting her next voyage. Caption to this photo in the Baker Papers reads "Wharf scene at foot of Middle Street previous to 1869." The HELEN MAR sailed from New Bedford in April of 1866 and returned in May of 1870.On View
