DescriptionC.W. Morgan lighted at night, Round Hill, Broadside view."Photograph taken by William H. Tripp of this city about two weeks ago when all the sails on the old whaleship Charles W. Morgan were set, and the brilliant lights turned on her, one evening. Mr. Tripp gave his film a 12 minute exposure, and the quality of the negative he secured made it almost of the value of a snap-shot taken under favorable conditions. This is the only time the old craft has had all her sails set at night. A number of photographic reproductions have been made of the Morgan at night under the spot lights, but the Morgan under full sail with her white canvas standing out sharp and clear against a black background, made a striking spectacle to those who happened to be at the Round Hill estate the evening in question. The only thing that shows it was a time exposure is the lack of sharpness in the American flag seen flying at the peak of the gaft of the mizzen sail, and even this came out pretty fair considering it took 12 minute’s exposure to make the negative."
