DescriptionThree tined fork carved in the style of a Bird Harpoon. Handle engraved with an Old English style "S". Part of the middle tine is missing. Minor russet paint splatter on back. 2010.60.26 & .27: serving set, walrus ivory carved into an 8" spoon and a three-tine fork in the manner of a salad-serving pair. The handle motifs are vaguely reminiscent of bird harpoons terminating in a trifid pattern, each engraved and monochrome pigmented with the Old Text initial "S".ProvenanceObjects associated with Captain Albert C. Sherman, his wife Carrie, son Albert Jr. ("Bertie") and daughter Helen. The family brought back souvenirs from a Western Arctic wintering-over voyage of 1895-1897. The donor is the granddaughter of Helen Herschel Paul (nee Sherman), who was born on Herschel Island in 1895.
