DescriptionA brass sounding machine [T. Walker's Patent Sounding Machine] (Patent 3140) with an anchor stamp. The brass and solder vane revolves when the machine is dropped to the bottom and measures 2 to 150 fathams. A lanyard is attached. There is a direction label on the inside top of the hinged lid of the box.Provenance"HWK" numbered objects are from Henry W. Kendall's personal collection, distinct from the larger Kendall Whaling Museum collection.
