DescriptionA fitted wood (mahogany) box with hinged lid that holds a series of four graduated scalpels (three with ebony handles), a sharp hook or retractor, a conical brass canula, and a straight scissor held in a leather sheath. All the tools (except the canule) are marked: "Tiemann & Co.", probably part of a ship captain's medical chest. Used for dissection. Sticker on bottom of box partially legible: "Wing", "Hingham, Mass."On View
