DescriptionA linen undershirt belonging to the family of John and Phebe Charry. The shirt is embroidered around the neck and sleeves. A piece of material comes down in front.ProvenanceCaptain Charry was a Southerner and was in New Bedford with his whaling vessel when he met Phebe A. Derrickson. She use to go on whaling trips to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and while in Hawaii the crew were poisoned from canned meat and Phebe nursed them all. A baby died and was buried in a plot. When Ted was in the Marines he tried to find the grave. There were gone 2 or 3 years on these trips and babies were born. (Baby's grave reportedly on Oahu. We searched in Lahaina, Maui.
