DescriptionOval ditty box. Wooden bottom; wooden lid with plain baleen skirt, the top inset with an oval panbone plaque with a monochrome engraved scene of Faneuil Hall, Boston, and the edges relief carved with a sawtooth border; the sides monochrome engraved: an elegant four-chimney brick colonial house, with wall, landscaping, and staffing; a waterside parkland scene with trees, staffing, and short obelisk monumet, inscribed in block capitals "PENN SOCIETY / AD 1827 / GREAT / ELM TREE."; sidewheel steamer underway and flying the American flag at the stern; deer hunting scene: two men with rifles (one shooting), a dog, and two rampant stags; five pierced and pointed rattails; circumferential diamond-pattern border along the bottom edge; non-ferrous fastenings.
