Shell shank with bone barb lashed to it by sennit cord.ProvenanceIn the 1933 New Bedford City Directory an Edward Drake is listed as a civil engineer. His father, Albert B. Drake was the city surveyor between the 1880s and the first quarter of the 20th Century. Edward Drake was an amateur historian who wrote at least one historical sketch for the local newspaper about Fairhaven and the American Revolution (See: ODHS Scrapbook #16). Edward Drake gave his Marquesas collection to the ODHS on June 8, 1933 and on June 10, 1933 shot himself in the head with an antique pistol because of his deteriorating financial situation (see: ODHS Scrapbook #4, Biographical clippings).
