DescriptionThis ship portrait of the EUPHRATES shows her at sea from the starboard beam with forecastle and mainsail clewed up, halliards slacked on fore and main, and mizzen top gallant sails and spanker brailed in. There are three signal flags at the foretop, a name pennant at the main top, and an unidentified flag at the mizzen top. An American flag flies at the peak of the gaff, and the hull is painted black with a tan waist and sheer stripe. In the background to the right is a rock with a red pennant. The inscription in bottom margin reads: "Euphrates Capt. John Smith 1828".
