DescriptionWhale ivory (?) swift, base-like clamp with letters "D.D.T." This swift contains a single cage made from skeletal whalebone with the ribs and struts fastened together with one row of metal rivets. The upper and lower sprockets are made from whale ivory and contain 6 slots. The shaft is made from some tropical wood with a round expansion collar made of the same wood with a brass thumbscrew. The clamp is square and has linear engraving with the initials "DDT" on the side. The thumbscrew is oblong and also has linear engraving. The cup shaped finial is also made from the same tropical wood and simply turned.ProvenanceWilliam TallmanOn View
