DescriptionA braided twine made on shipboard by the father of the donor. Colloquially called a cat-o'-nine-tails. Captain Andrew P. Jenney of Fairhaven made whaling voyages starting at age 12, as a green hand in the ship South Boston of Fairhaven (1840-42), eventually rising to command two voyages of the bark Joseph Maxwell of Fairhaven (1855-58 and 1859-63).ProvenanceCaptain Andrew P.
