DescriptionTortoise shell ring mounted on a base in the form of a book, with covers and binding of tortoise shell, "pages" of whale ivory, and two brass hasps, fastened with rivets. One rivet (of 2) has pulled through.Five very similar napkin rings by the same hand have been identified in the museum collection, though no two constitute a precisely matching pair: Kendall Collection S-235 (2001.100.376), S-236 (2001.100.377), and S-875 (2001.100.965); and 00.97.20 and 00.97.21.
