DescriptionCardboard Box with 25 cards (out of originally 30); each with pen and ink drawing and phrase at bottom, the picture providing clue to phrase. The box reads: CHARADES executed from original designs for Harriet P. Cushman, New Bedford, Mass. By W.C.G.C. Dec. [?] 62." Harriet P. Cushman is Harriet Pierce Cushman Marshall. She was born in Middleborough, MA on September 26, 1824 and died in New Bedford, MA on December 15, 1873. The W.C.G.C. who made the cards for Harriet is almost certainly her uncle (her father's brother), William Channing Gibbs Cushman. He was born in Hudson, NY on January 25, 1822 and died on April 1, 1888, likely in Bristol, RI.
The card numbers no longer in the box are 2,6,8,17, and 21.
