Description"Sternboard: Bark ATLANTIC". Carved pine. Sternboard of painted, carved wooden eagle, wings fully spread. Left talon on top of lined gold half-globe. Neck and beak twisted to left.Possibly white pine. Cannon & Lewis Shipyard. ProvenanceATLANTIC built in New Bedford 1851(found mention of it in September 16th 1851 Whalemen's Shipping Papers) --8 whaling voyages before 1881 when she was transfered to San Francisco and wrecked on her last voyage from San Francisco in 1886. Sternboard removed prior to transfer and decorated the shop of W. H. Crook, shipwright in New Bedford.
