DescriptionThese models have been used at the annual religious festival, "Oyumi Shinji" at Asuka Jinjya (Shinto Shrine) in Taiji Town. It is believed that the models will bring good catches during the year if you could struggle and successfully get one of three at the festival. This souvenir model was copied from a religious whale model and sold in Taiji. Orange and black with rope. Attached base with writing.ProvenancePart of the annual whale festival at Taiji, which celebration dates back hundreds of years, includes an archery competition: The whale effigies evidently also form some part of the trophy for the competition.
