DescriptionBuilder's half-hull laminate model (shipyard model) of an unidentified whaling shooner, the distingushing feature of which is the starboard-side aperture to accommodate a cutting stage (which identifies it definitively as a whaling schooner, and which is an extremely rare feature in any case). Comprised of six (6) wood lifts fastened with 8 three-quarter-inch dowels (drifts); round transom, elaborately detailed trailboard, beakhead, and nub bowsprit; mounted on an indigenous wooden backboard, fastened with metal screws.ProvenanceHyland Granby Antiques, Hyannis Port, Mass., 09/19/1996, $10,000.00.On View
