Recto: Standing figure of Liberty wearing a Greco-Roman plumed helmet, holding an American flag in her right hand, holding a riband inscribed "INDEPENDENCE"; additional patriotic accoutrements are an eagle perched on a USA shield and a naval cannon. Verso: Larboard broadside view of a three masted auxiliary bark sidewheel steamer with a very tall smokestack (funnel), flying a USA flag at the fore, a commission pennant at the main, and a Union Jack at the taffrail; surmounted by a sheaf of wheat, a fouled anchor, and a leafy arch.ProvenanceHarold J.
