DescriptionFive disc-shaped tiers (levels) carved out of whale skaletal bone, on a shaft of whale skeletal bone, the upper and lower tiers carved in a fluted sunburst motif; the three middle tiers flat with pierced-work hearts and scallped edges, each with vertical spindles of whale skeletal bone to function as spool holders, (top to bottom) 6, 8, and 10 holders respectively; surmounted by a cup turned from walrus ivory with a walrus ivory lid carved in a fluted sunburst motif with acorn finial; four curved legs carved out of whale skeletal bone.ProvenanceKendall Whaling Museum; New Bedford Whaling Museum
